In Honor of My Dad, Ken Minor

Dear friends,

My name is Bryan Minor, I am the youngest of my fathers two sons. It is with a great deal of sadness and regret that I have found my way onto my fathers blog to post what will be "One Conservative Estimates" final post.

Today, 11-30-2010 at around 12pm my father passed away. He left behind his beautiful wife of 42 years, two sons, two daughter-in-laws, 5 grandchildren and more memories than can be imagined.

Dad is a wonderful man. Strong, courageous and full of love. He served his country in the US Navy, honored God with his life and lips, and loved his family both in word and deed. He was a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Though I will always remember him as Dad and am so proud of who he was/and is now with God in Heaven.

Dad always fought for what he believed in. He'd ask you to do the same.

God bless you all.

Sincerely

Bryan Minor, the proudest son to ever live.

  1. I almost forgot.

If there is one thing I've learned from losing my dad today it is this...please listen.

Do not neglect to tell those whom you love how you really feel about them. Forgive all wrongs, love openly, and never let the sun go down on your anger.

    See you soon Dad.

  3. Bryan - I only met your father briefly while he was in my home for several hours working on my computer. Our time was short, but the imprssion he left was huge! He shared with me his love for the Lord, his time as a pastor, and the love he found from others when in need. He spoke proudly of his sons and grandchildren. I had the opportunity to speak to Jon today who your dad did work for and we were able to pray for all of you. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. He had much to offer this world, and I know, along with you, your father is without pain rejoicing with His Father in Heavan. I will continue to pray for all of you. Kim

  4. Bryan-We are so very saddened to hear about the loss of your Dad from Jon. Ken was our computer tech at Elliot Tool and he made each one of us smile from the time he walked in to the time he walked out no matter how the day was going. He was one of the nicest people we have worked with and we know he will be missed greatly by many. He was like part of our family and we feel very fortunate to have met Ken, which we can thank Jon at JIL for. He’s one of those people that make a lasting impression on you. Ken loved talking about his family and has told us many life stories that we found to be so interesting. We will not only miss him as our friend, but as our computer tech. He knew right what to do when he came in here and he was so full of information.
We can’t imagine the pain you all are going thru at this time. We will keep you and your family in our prayers.

    Sincerely-

    Elliot Tool, Inc.

  5. Bryan, (and Kenny too) I don't know if you remember me or not, this is Richard Vrba. Your dad Ken, was my boss at Taco Bell in Omaha NE and was instrumental in my getting promoted in that company through City Mgr., and later District Mgr in Denver, AND THEN. . .years later he was instrumental in my transfer out her to California.
I WOULD NOT EVEN BE OUT HERE IN CALIFORNIA IF IT WERE NOT FOR YOUR DAD.
I AM ETERNALLY GREATFUL TO HIM, AND I HAVE KEPT UP WITH HIM ALMOST MONTHLY OVER THESE MANY YEARS (through the convenience store in Springfield, & then later St. Louis). Before that, while you were all still here, HE EVEN HELPED ME SET UP 5 PHONE LINES IN THE VERY APARTMENT I STILL LIVE IN--HE WAS HERE, IN THESE VERY HALLS & ROOMS.
When your family was in Northern CA running the 3 Taco Bells for Dave Hunt, I visited you in your home in Dublin many times. You played the trombone for us once (you were just starting lessons, and I played it too, since I had played it in high school).
At 1 point a few years ago, your Dad told me by phone that you were quite a good Country Singer & had a great voice for that, and had a tune or 2 on the radio!!!
I certainly remember your brother Kenny too.
In the meantime, over the years I talked by phone with both your Dad & Mom continously almost every month or 2. They came out here a few years back to re-visit Yosemite & Sequoia Nat. Park & they entertained us (me & my significant other) at the Claremont Hotel restauraunt while there were in Oakland (Berkeley).
Back to the point. I was NEVER so shocked in my life as when your mother called me (I had to return her call--I wasn't in and she left a message saying to call her as soon as I got in).
I offer my sincerest sympathy & condolances (I know that's not enough), and I just don't know what else to say--it's such a shock.
You can email me at any time,
    rlvrba@comcast.net
I guess I was "forced" to make this "anonymous" because I don't have any of the other accounts on the drop down list set up--I guess that's the reason. Otherwise, I would have never made this anonymous.

  6. Ken was a wonderful man that made a great impact on my life. He was always encouraging and would never allow you to say anything negative. We had many discussions about God and our beliefs. I will miss him tremendously. He was our IT man at work, but he became our friend. We will pray for your family as I know you miss him more than anyone else. But always know how many lives he touched.

  12. My name is Don and while I never was blessed enough to be able to meet Ken, I knew him through the web and blogging. Ken contributed to a blog that I, too contribute to. I got to know him through his writings and to say that he inspired me would be an understatement. Ken had a wonderful perspective on things, he was able to offer critiques of our modern political scene without resorting to the rhetoric and "bomb throwing" that is so popular in our political discourse these days.

I want to share with you all part of a Thanksgiving blog that Ken posted at Conservative Hideout 2.0 (the blog where he and I both contribute):

"Today is a day for giving thanks and that I will do. I have so much to be thankful for that no brief article could contain it all. Mostly I am thankful for the life and health I have and those that share it with me. I am thankful for my faith in God who makes peace and living possible. For those closest to me I am most thankful that they have chosen to be there and for any willing to call me friend. I am thankful for forgiveness and that I have received so much of it and for the freedom it gives me to keep on trying."

Rest in Peace, Ken. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family, my friend.

  15. To The Minor Family: My prayers go out to you during this painful time. Take solace in the knowledge that Ken has left behind an enduring legacy here on Earth. The family you described is a powerful testament to Ken's faith and love. Moreover, by touching the lives of his children and grandchildren, Ken has ensured his immortality. He will live in your hearts for all of your days, and that is no small feat.

To Bryan: Your father would be proud of the tribute you wrote for him. I didn't know Ken personally and I had not been familiar with his writings until very recently. In the brief time I read your father's work, I found him to be a passionate soul who cared very much about the fate of our nation. His articulate defense of freedom, human rights and traditional American values is inspiring. No doubt his words have affected many people around the world.

From a writer's perspective, that is the greatest compliment I can give your father.

Again, your family is in my prayers. God bless Ken Minor-RIP.

  18. Bryan, I'm saddened by this news. My prayers go out to you and your family. I enjoyed reading Ken's thoughts. It takes a lot of courage to put one's beliefs out there for the world to see. Ken had a keen insight on what is happening today and I am thankful he chose to share them with us. He will be missed. God bless you all. ~ Phil

  22. Dear Friends,

    This is Bryan Minor again.

On behalf of our family, I'd like to say thank you for all of your kind words, thoughts and sincere prayers.

We were all truly blessed by reading all of your kind words.

Dad had a wonderful service yesterday, (He looked great) and you'll be happy to know that he was given full military honors; including firing squad, salute and flag presentation.

God bless you all; and may the good Lord lead you to the streams of living water!

    Sincerely,

    Bryan Minor

  24. Dear Bryan, I learned of your father's passing from Matt at the Cons. Site. I am so sorry for you and your family. What a wonderful tribute post you did for your great father. I know he is looking down from heaven very, very proud of you. You and your family have my deepest sympathies. I know how sad it is to loose a parent, and I'm praying for you. You can take consolation that Ken is with the Lord now, and watching over you all. God Bless.

  25. Life gives you an unexpected present from time to time. That is what happened to me about three years ago when I met Ken on the internet for the first time. Right away he struck me as a kind and generous person.

Learning new languages was our common interest. Since then we enjoyed never ending conversations. He was a true friend always willing to help you.

Soon I discovered that he was a talented man who had the kind of wisdom that you cannot learn at college. The deep knowledge that only men who have struggled hard in life from an early age can get.

Above all, he let me know how much he loved his family in every single meeting we had.

It is difficult to put into words how painful it can be to lose a friend who is thousands of miles away and whom unfortunately I never had the chance to meet in real life, although we toyed with that idea so many times.

We all know the world would be a better place with people like him.

I would like to extend my sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.

    Miguel

  26. Bonnie, Kenny and Bryan,

Your husband, Your Father and Grandfather, and very dear friend of mine, is and will be greatly missed. Ken always took the time to help anyone that needed it, and believe me, when it came to computers, i needed alot of help. He alaways gave me somrthing to think about and inspired me to new ideas. Our conversations we shared always intellectually stimulated me. He is such a good man.

I pray for you and your loved ones. God Bless you all.

    Love, Shaun
